Smoke ‘n Mirrors Quintet

he Smoke ‘n Mirrors Quintet is a group of five musicians from various parts of Nova Scotia that meet in Rhodes Corner to develop ideas and arrangements of standard songs that have stood the test of time over the past 100 years. Essentially we`re a ‘theme and variations’ group taking musical ideas from the not too distant past and giving them a new twist or a different feel and sometimes even new words! 

The group consists of John “Birdie” Bird – piano/soprano sax & clarinet, Paul Bishop – tenor sax, Gary Sallans – guitar, Rob Clarke – bass and Ian Bolton – drums. We are sort of unique in that all of us can ad lib on the songs we like to do. We also can function as a quartet and even a trio. Our vocalist, Wendy Oxley is a wonderfully talented singer and we enjoy accompanying her as often as possible.
